Artifact 1: Distance Delivery Support Staff Manual
This first artifact is a distance delivery support staff manual that I have used to train support staff who support students in the receiving distance delivery rooms. This year we have increased our classes and therefore have needed to increase the support staff. As a result we have formalized the training process, and produced this manual that is kept in distance delivery rooms for support staff to use when they need it. This manual has supported not just support staff but students and teachers as well can use the manual as a quick reference guide. The support staff has an important role providing support to students in the distance delivery classrooms because they are the first line of support when a student has an issue with the technology or they have an issue with the content. They have the ability to provide students not just learning support but emotional support. If the support staff are not trained or prepared to provide this support they will feel uncomfortable and under prepared to do so. Hence this artifact shows that it impacts not only teachers but students as well. |
Artifact 2: Canvas Training
This year has been the year for implementation of our new Learning Management System Canvas. Anytime there is a roll out of new software, there needs to be training. I have spent many hours this year providing individual and group support for Canvas, with our goal to get as many teachers and students using it as possible. I began with the distance delivery teachers and trained them in the summer. And then in the fall I provided a Canvas evening class for some of the advanced users of Canvas. The class was a full class and the teachers were able to implement it as we went through the class. I also planned and team-taught a 1-day class for Canvas for both secondary and elementary teachers. Based on our survey results, many teachers found the training beneficial and were going to implement pieces in their classrooms. As of March, we have 156 courses being used, 64 active teachers, 1,536 students have logged into the system. |
Artifact 3: Apps for Students Presentation
Since I have been in charge of heading up distance delivery, I have found that I spend a good amount of time providing support for teachers and students to help integrate the use of their iPads with their classes. This means that I am in and out for the distance delivery classes providing impromptu lessons at times for using particular apps. This particular artifact that I am sharing here is a presentation I did for several teachers to share about 3-4 apps that work best for presenting student learning. After giving this presentation I was able to sit in several of the classes and watch student presentations utilizing the apps. I feel students were able to give a higher caliber of presentation then they would in a non-distance delivery classroom because of the use of the technology. Hence I feel the impact of this lesson was beneficial for students and teachers in distance delivery.

Artifact 4: Hour of Code
My final artifact is Hour of Code. Hour of Code is an international program to get students around the world to practice coding skills for at least 1 hour with the premise being that coding is one of the fastest growing career fields in the US. Furthermore the skills required for coding benefit students immensely, from problem solving to critical thinking. So this year I did not want to miss out on the opportunity to have as many teachers participate in hour of code as possible. I taught 8 lessons for hour of code, all of which were very successful, impacting about 220 students. I feel that exposure to this event gave students and teachers perspective into the programming world and helped them to see that it is a field that is not exclusive to a certain type of person, rather a field that any person could be a part of. |
